Key Features

Here are the top-level features you can expect from your new website, and from working with us. Select any to see more information.

Your new website is built in the WordPress platform, and comes with the visual Bricks site builder. This content management system significantly lowers the learning curve for you and your team, so you can update the site content yourselves without needing a developer. Also, full documentation and handover training will be provided, giving you easy access to onboard new members of your team to the CMS.

Your new website will be designed specifically to meet you – and your customers – where you are. We incorporate your design and brand guidelines, colours and typography, and build on them to make your new website a digital experience that turns your visitors into paying customers. If you don’t have fixed brand guidelines yet, or you’re looking to evolve the brand, we can support with that too – and point out where you might have gaps (like colour contrast for example, which can prevent meeting accessibility guidelines).

Your new site is built to be resilient, flexible and scalable, ensuring that it grows and scales with you as your business – and needs for your digital presence – grows. Your site is built on the flexible WordPress platform, and uses a modular, component-based framework. This means that functionality and designs can be easily extended and changed with less developer effort required. For you, this means less cost for future changes and growth, making your budget go further, and in some cases, you’ll be able to achieve what you want without developer involvement at all.

Your new website will integrate seamlessly with all of your platforms. We work with you closely from the offset to make sure nothing here is missed, including:

  • Any CRM systems you use, like HubSpot, Salesforce and Pipedrive.
  • Any e-mail marketing platforms you use, like Mailchimp, Campaign Monitor, and Sendgrid.
  • Any content management systems you use for your titles and other data, like Biblio, knkMedia, ACUMEN Book and Consonance.
  • Any wholesale or distribution platforms you might be using for your titles, like Gardners Books.
  • Any event management and booking platforms you use – allowing seamless booking and showing your events automatically on the site – like Eventbrite, Fienta and TicketTailor.
  • Any other platforms you’re using – we’ll map these out in our kick-off workshops to get a deep understanding of your business, and what your new website needs to integrate with, so it’s considered from the start, and nothing is an afterthought.

On delivery of your new website, we’ll provide full documentation and handover training for your team. This gives your team full control and knowledge, so you can update the site content yourselves without needing a developer. The documentation gives you the ability to onboard new members of your team to the CMS beyond the initial handover training session.

A mobile-first design approach is followed throughout the design and build, ensuring it looks great on mobile, tablet and desktop. For your visitors, this means a consistent, better user experience – and for you, this means more visitors converting to paying customers.

We also conduct regular quality assurance and testing both throughout the build and on completion, ensuring your new website performs and works exactly as intended across browsers, devices and screen sizes.

Accessibility best practices are incorporated from the very beginning, and throughout the entirety of the project – design, build, and ongoing maintenance. Your new website will be fully compliant with the WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility guidelines, and the European Accessibility Act. This means your new site is legally compliant, and crucially it will be accessible to more of your visitors, meaning more of them will become paying customers.

Security will be built in to your new website from the ground up as a core foundation. We follow industry leading security practices throughout the entire develpment an deployment process, including code level scanning and automated vulnerability scanning – ensuring that your digital presence is well protected against modern threats.

All of our hosting eenvironments and development practices align with Cyber Essentials and ISO 27001 standards, ensuring robust data protection, access control, and information security management at every stage. In addition, your new site will be deployed behind a firewall and CDN (content delivery network), ensuring high peformance while simultaneously protecting it from DDoS attacks, bot traffic, web scraping (with exceptions for ‘good bots’ that we want to allow), and other malicious activity.

We’ve been building digital solutions – including websites – for over a decade, so we’re confident that you’ll like what you see when we start working together – confident enough to put our money where our mouth is. If you aren’t completely satisfied with how things are going, you can invoke our money-back guarantee within 30 days of starting the project, no questions asked, so there’s no risk to you – or your hard-earned budget.

Although we conduct thorough quality assurance and testing both throughout the development of your new site and on completion, it also comes with a 3-month post-launch warranty, giving you complete peace of mind once it’s live. During that 3-month period, we monitor your website’s performance and stability closely to ensure it continues to function exactly as intended – and we’ll fix any bugs, technical issues, or unexpected behaviour covered under the original project scope quickly and at no additional cost.

Your new site includes three months post-launch of hosting, support and maintenance at no additional cost. During those three months, your website will be securely hosted on optimised infrastructure, with daily backups, uptime monitoring and performance checks to ensure reliability and speed.

Each month we dedicate time to continuous improvement – from regular UX and performance reviews through to refining content structures and improving conversion paths.

You’ll also benefit from ongoing technical support and proactive maintenance throughout, which includes regular plugin and dependency updates, performance and UX optimisation, and security patches and updates. When the 3-month period ends, you’ll automatically shift on to our monthly rolling hosting, support and maintenance plan, meaning no disruption to your website.

The Process

Kick-off Call

We start with a focused call to understand your publishing business, your audiences, and what success looks like for you. We’ll also dig deeper to surface what systems and platforms your new site will need to integrate with, as well as what is and isn’t working for you with your existing digital presence. From there, we’ll map out the right approach, outline next steps, and confirm the best way to move forward together.

Discovery & Information Gathering

We’ll start this phase with a workshop to deep dive into your audiences and goals, using that information to collaboratively map out your ideal customer profiles (ICPs), user personas and journey maps. If you’ve got existing personas or journey maps, we’ll also build on those throughout this exercise, challenging any assumptions that have been made to verify they’re still accurate.

Also, we’ll dig into the existing data you’ve got – for example, your information hierarchy, analytics and heatmaps from your current website – translating that data into actionable business intelligence. This will identify any flaws in the current user experience, as well as what’s working well – so we can combine those learnings with our knowledge of best practice, resulting in a great user experience which gets carried into the new website.

Prototyping & Design

Your new website starts to take shape! Using the data we’ve gathered during the discovery phase, we’ll make informed design decisions underpinned by UX best practices to start creating the first-stage design prototype. We’ll work closely with you on this to ensure it aligns consistently with your brand, looks beautiful and is designed to convert, making sure we hit your objectives. We’ll then iterate on the design and move towards a high-fidelity prototype, showing in detail how your new website will look and feel, and how key user interactions will work through prototyping.

Before we go any further, the designs are signed off by your team, and are developer-validated at all stages too, guaranteeing strong cohesion between the design and build stages, and mitigating against the risk of problems surfacing later in the project.

Develop & Build

In this stage, we bring your new website to life. Your site will be developed on the flexible WordPress platform, following modern development standards, best practices and latest accessibility guidelines throughout.

We build your site in an iterative, transparent way. You’ll have direct access to our Jira project board, where you can see exactly what’s being worked on, progress updates, and key milestones in real time. We also hold regular check-ins and demo show and tell sessions with you to ensure you stay informed and involved at every step.

Your website is built to be modular and component-based, meaning layouts and features can easily evolve as your business does. This approach makes future updates simpler and more cost-effective, while maintaining consistency and performance across the entire site.

We also conduct regular QA and testing throughout the build process to ensure that your new website performs exactly as intended.

QA & Test

Although we regularly conduct QA and testing through the build process, we also conduct a full quality assurance and testing phase at the end of the build, to ensure your new website performs and works exactly as intended. We’ll test the site against the agreed acceptance criteria, validating all functionality and integrations across browsers, devices and screen sizes.

Our QA process also includes accessibility, performance and security checks to make sure that your new site is fully compliant with WCAG 2.2 AA standards, and delivers a secure, seamless user experience. As part of this process, we conduct both manual and automated tests using real-world scenarios – ensuring that your visitors experience a fast, secure and reliable website – and convert into paying customers.

UAT (User Acceptance Testing)

Your new website will be deployed to a dedicated staging environment for you and your team to explore. This stage is your opportunity to experience the site as your users would, checking how it looks, feels and functions before going live.

You’ll have the chance to provide feedback and request any final refinements, which we’ll address collaboratively, ensuring the end result aligns perfectly with your expectations and business goals. Once you’re completely happy and you give final sign-off, we’ll start preparing for launch.

Training & Documentation Handover

Before your new website goes live, you’ll receive a tailored training session for your team, showing you exactly how to manage your new CMS and web content. We’ll walk you through everything from editing content and adding new titles and authors, through to managing images, events, and metadata.

You’ll also receive comprehensive documentation covering all aspects of your site’s setup and management. This makes it simple for new team members to get up to speed quickly and ensures you stay fully in control without needing (or paying extra money for) developer support.

Website Launch

With testing and training complete, we’ll work with you to coordinate the launch of your new website. We handle all technical aspects of deployment for you – from DNS changes and 301 redirects to post-launch performance and smoke testing – ensuring a smooth, risk-free go-live with zero disruption to your users.

As well as a 3-month warranty during which we’ll fix any bugs, your new website also comes with the first 3 months of hosting, support and maintenance included. For you, this gives peace of mind that your new website will be backed up, managed, continuously monitored, regularly optimised and secured – all without you lifting a finger.

Continuous Improvement

When your new site is live, our partnership doesn’t end there – you’ll continue to benefit from our expertise. Your site comes with a 3-month warranty for any bug fixes, as well as the first 3 months of hosting, support and maintenance included. Your website will continue to evolve as your business does, and each month we dedicate time to continuous improvement – from regular UX and performance reviews through to refining content structures and improving conversion paths.

Pricing starts from £5k, but the exact price for your new website will depend on the  work required to deliver it (for example, what systems integrations are required, how much content there is to create, how many pages are required). The quickest way to get a clear answer on this is to book a kick-off call so we can understand your business in-depth, as well as what success looks like, to then provide you with a quote.

Because we understand publishing, we’re experts in our field of web design and development – and we deliver measurable results. Our track record speaks for itself – see our case study for Granta below, where they saw a 300% increase in weekly newsletter signups, and significant annual cost savings as a direct result of working with us.

If that’s not enough, you’ve got complete peace of mind with our risk-free 30-day money back guarantee, our 3-month warranty, and the included 3 months of hosting, support and maintenance post-launch. These guarantees are an extra that you won’t find with many other digital partners.

In your kick-off call, we’ll deep dive to understand your publishing business in-depth, as well as what success looks like for you, so we’ll be considering the results that you want to achieve from the very beginning and at every stage of the project.

In general though, the results you can expect include a website that loads faster, meaning better SEO, and an outcome of more visitors converting into paying customers.

This depends on how complex your new website is, but in general we’ll aim to deliver your new site within 2 to 3 months. Your project is likely to fall on the lower end of that estimate, but we want to be transparent with you on timescales as complexity is the key driver on timings.

Absolutely! We’ll reach out a month in advance of expiry to arrange continuation, or handover if you’d prefer to take that in-house or to another provider. If we don’t get an agreement in place before the end of the 3-month period, you’ll automatically move into a rolling monthly hosting, support and maintenance plan with us – though you’ll get a better price if we get an annual agreement in place.

Yes – we do use AI in a limited, supportive capacity as part of our internal processes, but not as a substitute for human expertise. We may make use of AI to write code at times too, but this also is subject to intense scrutiny by a senior-level developer or above.

We don’t use AI for ‘vibe coding’, and will never use an AI to design or develop a solution end-to-end without a human in the loop. In addition, we never provide any client IP, any confidential/sensitive data, or personal data to an AI.

From a client perspective, we may deliver AI solutions for specific projects too, such as an AI chatbot embedded on a client website to answer questions for their customers. These are also sourced and deployed in line with our AI policy, and in line with data governance and security standards as agreed with clients.

If you have any other questions, then book your kick-off call and we’ll answer them for you. In the kick-off call, we’ll deep dive to understand your publishing business in-depth, as well as what success looks like for you, so we’ll be well placed to answer any questions you have.
